Youth Joy Fund: FAQ’s

Over the last couple of years Consortium has been building its capabilities as a specialised LGBT+ Funder. With this growth we have also developed the LGBT+ Fund as the brand for our ongoing grant giving and to further develop it into the UK’s first LGBT+ Endowment Fund in the future. From now on all funding given through Consortium will be branded as the LGBT+ Fund, powered by Consortium.

If you can strongly demonstrate that your organisation/group has been providing support and/or activities to LGBT+ young people where there is a gap in current provision for a minimum of a year and the work is delivered by an LGBT+ member of the community, you are eligible to apply for the fund.

We feel that LGBT+ people have the lived experience to know what other LGBT+ people may be experiencing and what they may need. It is empowering and comforting for group members to be led by other members of the LGBT+ community who have knowledge of the struggles and joy of belonging to the community.

We appreciate that groups can often include a mix of identities however as the LGBT+ youth sector is underfunded and under resourced in England, we are only seeking to fund LGBT+ youth specific work at this time.

You will need to provide the supporting documents as part of your application. As organisations are supporting young LGBT+ people, as a funder we need to be confident that the organisation is in a strong position to support them, and that governance and safeguarding policies have been considered. If you still have queries on this, please get in touch with the Giving Team.

If after reading the guidance document and FAQ's you are still unsure, do get in touch with the Giving Team: giving@consortium.lgbt

The team can advise if an application idea will be suitable/eligible for the fund, but as all final decisions are made by our community panel and as we receive a high number of eligible applications, we cannot advise as to whether an application will be successful in advance.

A pdf version of the application form questions can be accessed from the introduction section of the online application form. We are only able to accept applications submitted online via our written or video application links, this copy is just for information purposes and to help prepare an application. The application form guidance document is only available in a PDF format to prevent applicants submitting a Word version via email, which we are unable to accept.

Unfortunately, we are only able to accept applications from non-profit organisations and groups based within England for this fund.

Yes. Applicants can apply to both funds and any other funds that the LGBT+ Fund launch, but we will not be able to double-fund the same work. Requests to each fund should be for separate work/projects/costs.

The amount of funding available to apply for in 2027 and 2028 will be dependent on the number of applications received in 2026 and whether groups in all 32 boroughs and the funds communities of focus have been awarded grants.
